Kambo

Experience transformative healing through ancient Amazonian plant medicine rituals.

What is Kambo?

Kambo is a powerful traditional medicine from the Amazon, used by Indigenous tribes like the Matsés and Katukina to cleanse the body, clear negative energy, and enhance physical and mental strength.

Sourced ethically from the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog, Kambo contains natural peptides that work with the lymphatic system to purge toxins, reset the nervous system, and support deep emotional release.

It is not psychedelic — but instead a potent, grounding detox that helps the body, mind, and spirit let go of what no longer serves.

Rooted in ancient wisdom and applied through safe, trauma-informed practices, Kambo offers a unique path to healing and renewal.

How Does It Work?

Kambo is applied to the skin through small, superficial points. Once absorbed, its powerful peptides enter the lymphatic system, initiating a fast-acting detox and reset.

A session typically includes an intense but brief purging process — releasing toxins, stagnant energy, and emotional blockages. Many clients emerge feeling clear, grounded, and renewed.

Reported benefits include:
• Relief from depression, anxiety & PTSD
• Increased energy, focus & stamina
• Reduction in chronic pain & fatigue
• Emotional release & mental clarity

What Does Kambo Feel Like?

The effects begin within seconds. You may feel heat, flushing, or pressure as the peptides circulate through your system. After several minutes, nausea or the urge to purge often arises as toxins leave the body.

The active phase lasts 15–30 minutes, after which the body begins to settle. Many describe feeling peaceful, grounded, and reborn. In the days that follow, you may notice increased energy, emotional clarity, sharper focus, and a deeper connection to your intuition.

“When we take Kambo, it opens a green light in the heart, clearing the way for good things to flow.”
Professor Marcelo Bolshaw Gomes, “Kambô: The Spirit of the Shaman”

Will I Purge?

Purging is common, but it’s not the only form of release. Kambo may bring laughter, tears, trembling, deep breathing, or stillness—each is a natural expression of the body’s healing process.

When Kambo enters the system, it activates smooth muscle contractions, stimulates organs, and helps reset the body’s internal rhythms. This process may bring nausea and temporary discomfort, but it also clears toxins and energetic blockages, leaving you lighter, clearer, and more aligned.

Preparing for Your Kambo Session

  • Fast 8–10 hours before your ceremony (no food, only water or electrolytes).

  • Bring 1 gallon of spring water (not distilled).

  • Eat clean, whole foods in the days leading up.

  • Wear comfortable layers—your body temperature may shift.

  • Set a clear intention for your ceremony.

Kambo Source & Ethical Harvesting

All Kambo served at Pillars of Light is ethically and sustainably harvested in the Amazon rainforest of Peru, where we work directly with Indigenous families and healers who have carried this sacred practice for generations.

Our Kambo comes from the Phyllomedusa bicolor, the giant monkey tree frog native to the Peruvian Amazon. The harvesters we partner with are trained in ancestral techniques that ensure the frog’s safety and well-being. Two people gently hold the frog by hand—no restraints, no harm, and no chemicals. Only the first layer of secretion is collected, allowing the frog to keep its natural protection. Immediately after collection, the frog is released unharmed back into its natural habitat.

In the Amazonian worldview, the frog is a sacred ally and guardian spirit. To harm or disrespect it would bring imbalance and misfortune. At Pillars of Light, we uphold this same reverence—ensuring that every step, from the forest to your ceremony, is guided by prayer, integrity, and sacred reciprocity.

A portion of every Kambo and Hapé offering directly supports the Indigenous communities we work with in Peru—providing clothing, mosquito nets, medicines, school supplies, and solar lights for families in need. This exchange helps sustain both the culture and the forest, keeping the circle of giving and gratitude alive.
